We at Portland Coffee Roasters stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and all those who are raising their voices against the systemic inequities and injustice in the United States. Conversations have started internally at our company, spurred by the horrific deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and others, and by the inspiring protests in Portland and across the nation and world. These conversations have given us an opportunity to step back and reevaluate what we do and what we stand for. We now have a renewed commitment to doing our part to make positive changes towards equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Our commitment to sustainability, and to the coffee growers we work with around the world, have been our focus from our very beginning. We will now carefully examine how we can expand that mission to support Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) closer to home through our own employment practices, through increased partnerships with historically black schools and organizations in the Portland area, and through increased support of organizations dedicated to equality for BIPOC.
Our first step is donating to the Urban League of Portland, one of many organizations working tirelessly to empower Black people to achieve true equality. We know this step is small, but it is just the beginning of our ongoing journey as a company to help effect real change. We will keep you posted as we continue to think, listen, evolve and take action on our own road to equity, diversity and inclusion.
